Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets (42-15-6, 90 points) earned six points during week 23 by winning three of four games played and improved to 41-15-6 and 90 points with three weeks remaining in the 2014-15 regular season schedule. The week started with a 4-1 victory at Indy Wednesday. Brett Perlini scored the first and fourth Fort Wayne goals of the match with tallies by Mike Embach and Eric Faille sandwiched in between. Perlini added a marker and Will stopped 24 of 28 shots in his third straight start and had his unbeaten streak snapped at nine games (7-0-2).Saturday the Komets opened a home double-header against Missouri with a 6-4 win. Szydlowski tied the ECHL's record of three short-handed goals in a game by a player and tied Fort Wayne's all-time record of five goals in a game while posting his first pro hat trick. It was the 27th time in the history of the ECHL that a player has scored five goals in a single game. It was Szydlowski's fifth-multi-goal game of the season and seventh three-plus-point night. Faille also starred in the game with five assists, assisting on each of Szydlowski's goals. Christian Ouellet also hit the net for the Komets while Pat Nagle kicked out 31 of 35 shots to earn the win in his first Fort Wayne appearance since his call-up to the AHL's Utica Comets Feb. 23. The Komets completed a sweep of the home series and the season series against Missouri (3-0-0) with a 4-1 win in front of a Sunday crowd of 8,513. Matt Lowry, Embach, Faille and Matthew Pistilli found markers for the Komets. Nagle earned his 22nd win, one short of his career season high, allowing one goal on 32shots. The Komets are 1-1-1 after three meetings with Wheeling and Friday's game will complete the season series. The Nailers are 3-2-1 in the last six games and will host Toledo Wednesday before hosting the Komets Friday. Wheeling currently holds the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division, leading fifth-place Indy and Cincinnati by a point with three weeks remaining.Saturday the Komets complete their road trip with a 7:35pm affair at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It's the first of three meetings remaining against the division rival Cyclones (27-28-7, 61 points). The Komets hold a 3-1-0 edge in the series after a 3-2 home win against Cincy March 15. There have been three players to score six assists in a game, the team's record, including Art Stone, Len Thornson and Reggie Primeau. But the last time a player reached five assists in a game before Faille's achievement Saturday was Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn on Jan. 24, 2009 at Muskegon in a 10-3 Fort Wayne win. The last time Komet fans witnessed five assists by a Komet player on Coliseum ice was Dec. 17, 2004 when Colin Chaulk dished five helpers in a 9-4 win over Richmond.Milestones-- Lowry scored his 100th point Friday at Kalamazoo (assist).....J.M.
