Fort Wayne, IN -- The Fort Wayne Komets announced Thursday that long-time “face of the franchise” Icy D. Eagle will be retiring at the end of the 2020-21 season and a new mascot will be replacing him beginning with the 2021-2022 season. Scott Sproat, Komets EVP/Co-Owner: "The franchise was in need of a mascot when the Franke family first bought the team in 1990. The Komets convinced Icy to migrate from Salt Lake City, Utah to fill that void. Unfortunately, all great careers in sports come to an end, and sadly Icy is feeling the pull to migrate back someplace with a warmer climate year-round. His future plans will be announced at a later date. Though saddened by the news, with the 70th anniversary of Komet Hockey next season, it's the perfect time to make this change. We've put a lot of thought and effort into our next mascot that will represent this team for many seasons to come”. Click below to view the newest Komets mascot concept.
