Al Sims

Al Sims captured five championships and left an indelible mark on the Komets across two remarkable eras. He first triumphed in the AAA ranks, guiding the underdog Komets against the giants of the original International Hockey League. Later, he led the Komets as the powerhouse in the Class AA level, commanding the second IHL and the Central Hockey League. Over a decade at the helm, Sims not only steered Fort Wayne to five titles and nine playoff runs, but also became the heart of the Komets. When the Franke brothers took over in 1990, Sims played a pivotal role in reviving hockey in the city. With 504 victories, his teams were a constant force near the top of the standings.
