Komets host homecoming double-header weekend

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets are home. It has been nearly three weeks since the Komets clipped the Wings from Kalamazoo 5-4 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 1. Since then, the Komets have skated six road games (4-2-0) and have maintained the top position in the Eastern Conference of the ECHL, finishing with 20 points (10-3-0) and an ECHL high seven road wins.This weekend the Wings return for an 8pm faceoff Friday. The Komets are coming off a 6-3 setback at Toledo Wednesday (see gamesheet). Kalamazoo (6-4-2, 14 points) is idle this week after a completing last week with a three-game winless streak, including the Wing's loss to Fort Wayne in the last meeting 4-0 at a Wednesday morning school game at Wings Stadium Nov. 12. The Wings face the Komets in two out of their next three games. Friday night's match is the fifth of 15 meetings this season with the Komets leading the series 3-1-0. The North Division rival Wings are in third place, trailing the first-place Komets by six points.Saturday the Greenville Road Warriors (8-6-0, 16 points) make their only appearance of the year in Fort Wayne at 7:30pm. The Warriors suffered a 3-0 shutout at Evansville Wednesday in their last meeting and are 2-3-0 in their last five games. Greenville will skate at Toledo Friday night before making the trip to Fort Wayne Saturday.

The Komets are home four out of their next five games. In addition to this Friday and Saturday's home games, next week the Komets will host the Indy Fuel for the traditional Thanksgiving night game. Friday, Nov. 28 the Komets face the Wings at Kalamazoo for a rare 5pm affair in honor of Black Friday. The Komets return for a Saturday night game, Nov. 29 against the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:30pm.All upcoming Komet games can be heard on WOWO AM 1190 and FM 92.3 with Bob Chase calling the action in his 62nd season radio rinkside. K notes-- Left wing Mitchell Heard has points in his last three straight games (2g, 1a) and 10 of 12 games played. Heard has a league-high four-game home point and goal-scoring streak (5g, 1a). Heard leads the Komets with 10 goals (2nd in ECHL) and is tied with right wing Shawn Szydlowski with a team high 16 points (3rd in ECHL)...Szydlowski leads with 10 assists (3rd in ECHL)...Defenseman Drew Daniels leads with +10...Christian Ouellet scored a goal Wednesday at Kalamazoo to have points in four of his last five games...Center Eric Faille leads Fort Wayne rookies with five goals, eight assists and ranks fourth among ECHL rookies with 13 points...James Martin leads Komet defensemen with eight assists and ranks third among ECHL defensemen with 10 points...Goaltender Pat Nagle leads with 6-2-0, 2.70 goals-against average and .901 save percentage...The Komets have scored a total of 53 goals in 13 games and rank at the top of the ECHL with an average of 4.08 goals per game. The Komets are 7-0-0 in one-goal games, 6-0-0 when leading after the first period, 6-1-0 when leading after two periods and 7-1-0 when outshooting their opponent.-Komet teamstats-100 club-- Heard has skated 99 pro games and can mark his 100th outing Friday night when the Komets host Kalamazoo.....defenseman William Lacasse has logged 97 ECHL games.....Matthew Pistill, currently on call-up to Norfolk of the AHL has netted 94 pro goals.....C.J. Severyn, currently on IR, has 95 pro points.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS NIGHT Friday-- Friday night will be Teddy Bear Toss Night when the Komets host Kalamazoo. It's the second annual Teddy Bear Toss game presented by Huntington University. Fans are invited to bring new or gently used stuffed animals to the game for the big toss and celebration after the Komets' first goal. All stuffed animals collected will benefit the Disorderly Bear Den of Good Bears of the World!REPORT CARD NIGHT #1 Saturday-- The Komets will have two PHP Report Card Nights this year. Students with an "A" or "A Equivalent" on their most recent report card earn a free ticket and have a chance to win one of two $1,000 U.S. Savings Bonds for future education on Report Card nights. The first is this Saturday when the Komets host the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:30pm. Report Card Night #2 is slated for Saturday, Feb. 21 when the Komets host the Gwinnett Gladiators.

TIP-A-KOMET Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Applebee's-- The Komets invite all fans to the Tip-A-Komet benefit at Applebee’s North Clinton location by the Coliseum Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 6:30pm-8pm. Fans have a chance to be served dinner by a Komet player as the entire team will be on-hand for the special night at Applebee’s. All tips benefit Applebee’s Make-A-Wish Foundation Fundraising efforts and the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. For more information fans can call the Komet office at 260-483-0011.
