Komets improve to ECHL best 10-2-0

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets gained four points in three games for week five of 2014-15 and improved to an ECHL best 10-2-0 for 20 points and .833 winning percentage after the first dozen games of the season. The only other time the Komets were off to a 10-2-0 start was 1978 when Fort Wayne established its best historical start of 10-1-0 and were 12-2-0 before suffering their third loss of the season.

In review-- Wednesday the Komets collected their second shutout of the season 4-0 at Kalamazoo. Goaltender Pat Nagle earned his third career shutout and first of the season stopping all 18 shots faced. It was the 199th all-time Fort Wayne win over Kalamazoo in 391 meetings (regular season). Friday the Komets suffered a 6-2 setback at Toledo, snapping a win streak of four games. It was Fort Wayne's first road loss of the season in seven games. Saturday the Komets rebounded with a 5-4 shootout victory at Cincinnati and remain unbeaten in shootouts at 2-0. Sami Aittokallio earned his second Fort Wayne win in three games making 23 saves on 27 shots before stopping all four Cyclone shooters in the shootout.

Komet streaks-- Shawn Szydlowski (RW) is riding a six-game point scoring streak (4g, 6a) and five-game assist streak (6a) (ECHL season high 5-game road assist streak).....goaltender Pat Nagle has a four-game road winning streak.

Milestone- Mike Embach (LW) appeared in his 200th pro game (regular season) Wednesday 11/12 at Kalamazoo.

Komet leaders-- Shawn Szydlowski leads the Komets with 10 assists and is tied for first in the ECHL with 16 points.....Mitchell Heard leads with nine goals (2nd in ECHL) and three first goals.....Drew Daniels leads with +11 (tied for first in plus-minus in ECHL).....Cody Sol leads with 20 penalty minutes.....Eric Faille leads Komet rookies with five goals and seven assists and ranks fourth among ECHL rookies with 12 points.....James Martin leads Komet defensemen with two goals, eight assists and ranks third among ECHL defensemen with 10 points.....Cody Sol ranks first among ECHL defensemen with three power play goals and ranks third with 33 shots.....goaltender Pat Nagle leads with a 6-1-0 record (ranks second in ECHL with six wins), 2.24 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. -Komets teamstats-

The Komets are unbeaten when....they are leading after the first period (6-0-0), they out-shoot their opponent (7-0-0) and they are in one-goal games (7-0-0).Pistilli loaned to Norfolk-- The Komets announced Monday that right wing Matthew Pistilli has been loaned to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. Pistilli had five goals and 13 points after appearing in all 12 Komet games at the start of the season.Scouting the week ahead-- The Komets will skate three games in four nights again this week starting with another morning game at Toledo Wednesday at 10:30. The Walleye (8-2-1, 17 points) are on the Komets heels in the North Division of the ECHL, trailing the first-place K's by three points. It's the Komets second of three trips to Toledo's Huntington Center this season after dropping a 6-2 affair last Friday night. Friday the Komets return home after a stretch of six road games in 20 days to host the Kalamazoo Wings (6-4-2, 14 points) at 8pm. It's the fifth meeting of 15 this year and the third of six Kalamazoo visits. The Komets shutout the Wings at Kalamazoo 4-0 in their last meeting last Wednesday to take a 3-1-0 series lead. The Wings are idle this week until they travel to Fort Wayne Friday. Saturday the Komets will host Greenville in the Road Warrior's only visit of the season at 7:30pm. Greenville (8-5-0, 16 points) ranks second in the East Division and trails first-place Florida by three points. Last season the Komets were 1-1-0 after two Greenville visits. Fort Wayne will make their first ever journey to Greenville for two games Jan. 9 and 10. The Road Warriors are 4-2-0 in their last six outings and are coming off a 2-0 loss at South Carolina Sunday. Greenville will skate at Evansville Wednesday and Toledo Friday before arriving in Fort Wayne Saturday.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS NIGHT Friday-- The Komets will return home Friday to host the Kalamazoo Wings at 8pm on Teddy Bear Toss Night. It's the second annual Teddy Bear Toss game presented by Huntington University. Fans are invited to bring new or gently used stuffed animals to the game for the big toss and celebration after the Komets' first goal. All stuffed animals collected will benefit the Disorderly Bear Den of Good Bears of the World!REPORT CARD NIGHT #1 Saturday-- The Komets will have two PHP Report Card Nights this year. Students with an "A" or "A Equivalent" on their most recent report card earn a free ticket and have a chance to win one of two $1,000 U.S. Savings Bonds for future education on Report Card nights. The first is this Saturday when the Komets host the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:30pm. Report Card Night #2 is slated for Saturday, Feb. 21 when the Komets host the Gwinnett Gladiators.

TIP-A-KOMET Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Applebee's-- The Komets invite all fans to the Tip-A-Komet benefit at Applebee’s North Clinton location by the Coliseum Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 6:30pm-8pm. Fans have a chance to be served dinner by a Komet player as the entire team will be on-hand for the special night at Applebee’s. Sound Off with the Komets on 21Alive Monday nights-- The Komets, 21Alive and SportONE/Parkview Icehouse present Sound Off with the Komets, a live weekly telecast each Monday night at 7:30. The show airs on WPTA TV 21Alive from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, 3869 Ice Way in Fort Wayne, featuring highlights, interviews and call-ins. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler. Tonight, Monday, Nov. 17, left wing Mike Embach will be Tommy's guest. All Komet fans are welcome to attend.
