Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets put an exclamation point on the team's best start in its 63-year history by stopping the visiting Evansville IceMen Sunday night 4-3 in a shootout. Saturday night the Komets recorded their best start in history after 25 games of 20-4-1 with a 3-1 home win over the Indy Fuel. Sunday the Komets pushed their record to 21-4-1 to lead the ECHL with 43 points at the Christmas break. It's also the earliest the Komets reached 21 wins (in 26 games) in the team's history. -ECHL Standings-The Komets opened with two goals in the first period by Thomas Frazee and Shawn Szydlowski before James Martin scored the only goal of the second frame on the power play. Evansville responded in the third with three unanswered markers (Jim McKenzie 1 goal and Patrick Kennedy 2 goals) to send the game into extra time. After a sudden death overtime, the Komets topped the IceMen in a five-round shootout 3-1 to take the win 4-3 and extend their point streak to eight games (7-0-1). Szydlowski, Matthew Pistilli and Frazee each has shootout tallies while Komet goaltender Pat Nagle stopped three of the four Evansville shooters for the win. Nagle, who made 30 saves on 33 shots before the shootout improves to 14-3-1 after 18 games. -Gamesheet-Sunday's victory extends the Komets' point-streak to 11 games (10-0-1), dating back to Thanksgiving night in Fort Wayne (Nov. 27) when the Komets defeated Indy 2-1 in a shootout.The Komets will take the next few days off for the Christmas break and will return to action Friday, Dec. 26 with a trip to Evansville for an 8:15 pm (ET) start at the Ford Center before returning home to start a holiday stretch of four games in six nights on Saturday, Dec. 27 when the IceMen return for a 7:30pm faceoff. Monday, Dec. 29 the Komets host Quad City at 7:30pm and Wednesday, Dec. 31 the Komets host their annual New Year's Eve affair when Indy returns at 7:30pm. The Komets finish the week with an 8pm faceoff Friday night, Jan. 2 when the Wheeling Nailers make their only appearance of the season at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. -Komets Schedule-
