Komets extend point streak to 11 games

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets swept all three games of the week to improve to 21-4-1 and claim sole possession of first place overall in the ECHL with 43 points at the Christmas break.

Week 10 in review-- The week started Friday when the Komets clipped the Wings at Kalamazoo 5-4. It was Fort Wayne's sixth straight road win (ECHL high) and fifth straight win over Kalamazoo.

Saturday the Komets returned home to stop intrastate rival Indy 3-1 and remain unbeaten by the Fuel this season after six meetings with five meetings remaining. The Komets also recorded their best start after 25 games in the team's 63-year history at 20-4-1, beating the old record of 20-5-1 set in 1978.

Sunday, the Komets put an exclamation point on their best start ever with a 4-3 shootout win at the Coliseum. It also set a new team record of the earliest to reach 21 wins at the start of the season, accomplishing the feat in 26 games. The Komets extended their point-streak to 11 games (10-0-1) dating back to Thanksgiving night in Fort Wayne (Nov. 27) when the Komets defeated Indy 2-1 in a shootout.Hot Komet streaks-- Goaltender Pat Nagle is unbeaten in regulation eight straight games (7-0-1) and is unbeaten after four shootout appearances this season.....Shawn Szydlowski has a four-game point-scoring streak (4g, 3a) and a three-game assist streak (3a).....Mike Embach has points and assists in three straight games (1g, 6a).....Eric Faille is riding an ECHL-high eight-game point-scoring streak (5g, 5a).....In addition to the Komets' three-game winning streak, the Komets are riding a six-game road winning streak and are unbeaten in regulation 11 straight games (10-0-1) for an 11-game point streak, both ECHL season-highs.Komet leaders-- Szydlowski leads with 15 goals, 29 points, and 4 shootout goals (ECHL high).....Embach leads with 20 assists.....Drew Daniels leads with +25 (ECHL high).....Cody Sol leads with 40 penalty minutes.....James Martin leads ECHL defensemen with 17 assists (T) and 22 points.....Faille leads Komet rookies with 12 goals, 14 assists and 26 points (4th overall among ECHL rookies).....Nagle leads with 14 wins, 2.38 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.

Milestones-- Szydlowski skated his 200th pro game Friday at Kalamazoo.....C.J. Severyn has 99 pro points....Thomas Frazee has logged 97 pro games.....Matthew Pistilli has scored 96 pro goals.

Holidays on ice-- After the Christmas break the Komets will skate four home games in seven nights. This week the Komets travel to Evansville to face the IceMen at Ford Center Friday night at 8:15 Fort Wayne time. Saturday the Komets return home to host the IceMen at 7:30pm to complete a home-and-home weekend set. North Division rival Evansville (9-14-2, 20 points) trail the first-place Komets by 23 points and are winless in their last eight games (0-6-2). The Komets lead the season series 3-0-0 with six meetings remaining.

Following the upcoming holiday weekend, the Komets are home for three games in five nights. Monday, Dec. 29 Quad City makes their only visit of the season at 7:30pm. It's the Mallard's first visit since March 21, 2012 when they were Komet rivals in the CHL. Wednesday, Dec. 31 the Komets welcome the Indy Fuel back to the Coliseum to ring in 2015 with the traditional Fort Wayne New Year's Eve game. Friday Jan. 2 the Komets welcome the Wheeling Nailers at 8pm. Then the Komets will finish a stretch of six games in nine nights Saturday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Toledo for the Toledo Winterfest outdoor game at 6:30pm at Fifth Third Field.

Window World Komet Military Appreciation Weekend-- This past weekend the Komets wore Military Throwback Jerseys during Window World Military Appreciation Weekend. The jerseys were auctioned off during both games Friday and Sunday. Defenseman Cody Sol's jersey yielded the most at $1,000. The auction raised a total of $10,807 which goes directly to Veterans Airlift Command, courtesy of Window World.KIDS SEAT FREE Monday-- Monday, Dec. 29 the Komets will host Quad City on another Kids Seat Free Night, courtesy Aunt Millie's, Parkview Health and the Komets. Any child under the age of 12 can see the game for free with a full-priced adult ticket purchase. Bring your skates Monday.....Monday's game will also feature a special holiday postgame skate courtesy Wendy's.

Sound Off with the Komets on 21Alive Monday nights-- The Komets, 21Alive and SportONE/Parkview Icehouse present Sound Off with the Komets, a live weekly telecast each Monday night at 7:30. The show airs on WPTA TV 21Alive from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, 3869 Ice Way in Fort Wayne, featuring highlights, interviews and call-ins. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler. Tonight, Dec. 22, Komet general manager David Franke will be Tommy's guest. All Komet fans are welcome to attend.
