Komets push point streak to eight games

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets collected five points in three games for week nine of 2014-15 and improved to 18-4-1 and 37 points to remained at the top of the ECHL after 23 games.

Friday the Komets started the week with a 4-2 win at Evansville in the first of a pair while visiting the intrastate rival. Four different scorers contributed to the Fort Wayne win including Shawn Szydlowski, Garrett Meurs, Matthew Pistilli and Thomas Frazee. Meurs kept his goal-scoring streak alive at an ECHL season-high five games (7g) while goaltender Pat Nagle stopped 24 shots for his fourth straight win. The Komets pushed their win streak to a season-high six games.Saturday the Komets completed their first visit of the season to Evansville by clipping the IceMen 2-1 in overtime. Eric Faille scored the lone Komet goal in regulation while Szydlowski notched the game winner in the extra session to extend his goal-scoring streak to three games (3g) and reach a career season high 12 goals. Meurs' point-scoring streak and ECHL high goal-scoring streak ended at five games (7g, 1a). Nagel earned his fifth straight win making 19 saves on 20 shots and reached an ECHL high 12 wins while the Komets gained their ECHL high 12th road win and extended their win streak to seven games. It was also only the second time in the 63-year history of the Komets that they reached 18 wins in their first 22 games (also 1978, 18-4-0). Sunday the Komets dropped a 5-4 overtime affair to the visiting Toledo Walleye. It was the first setback in three overtimes this season. The Komets pushed their point-streak to eight games (7-0-1) as their winning streak ended at a season-high seven games. The last time the Komets had a seven-game winning streak was during 2008-09 when they logged 10 straight wins (3/21/14-4/8/09). C.J. Severyn, Meurs, Faille and Brett Perlini scored for the Komets. It was Perlini's first goal as a Komet and Faille extended his point-scoring streak to five games (3g, 4a). Nagle extended his unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) making 25 saves in his third straight start.

Komet streaks-- Komets riding an eight-game point streak (7-0-1) and five-game road winning streak.....Faille has a five-game point streak (3g, 4a) and seven game road point streak (4g, 8a).....Szydlowski has goals in three straight road games (3g).....Mike Embach has a five-game road assist streak (7a).....Nagle has started three straight games, is unbeaten in six straight (5-0-1), and has a three-game road winning streak.

Milestones-- Defenseman William Lacasse logged his 100th ECHL career game Sunday against Toledo.....Severyn has 98 career points.....Szydlowski has appeared in 199 career games.

Komet leaders-- Szydlowski with 12 goals...Szydlowski and Faille with 23 points....James Martin leads ECHL defensemen with 16 assists and 20 points.....Cody Sol leads with 31 penalty minutes....Drew Daniels leads the ECHL with +21 and Faille leads all rookies with +13.....Nagle has an ECHL high 12 wins (12-3-1) and ranks eighth a 2.44 goals-against average.

The week ahead-- The Komets will skate three games in three nights this weekend before the Christmas break, all against North Division rivals. Friday the Komets skate at Kalamazoo (9-12-2, 20 points) at 7:30pm. It's the seventh meeting of 15 this season with the Komets leading the series 5-1-0 and riding a four-game win streak against the Wings. After a nine-game winless streak, Kalamazoo has gone 3-2-0 in their last five games. The Wings are idle this week until they welcome the Komets to Wings Stadium Friday night. Saturday the Komets return home to host Indy (5-12-5, 15 points) at 7:35pm. The Komets are a perfect 5-0-0 after five meetings this season. Saturday's match will be the Fuel's third of six visits. The Fuel are 2-3-1 in their last six games. Indy skates at Orlando Monday night and hosts Reading Wednesday and Toledo Friday before making the trip north to Fort Wayne Saturday. Evansville (8-10-3, 19 points) makes it's first of six visits to Fort Wayne Sunday at 5pm. The Komets are 2-0-0 in the series after two meetings at Evansville. The IceMen have lost the last four outings and are 3-3-2 in their last eight games. Evansville stays home during the week to host Elmira Wednesday and Reading Friday and Saturday before making the trip to the Memorial Coliseum Sunday. Military Appreciation Weekend-- This weekend is Military Appreciation Weekend when the Komets host Indy Saturday and Evansville Sunday. The Komets will wear Military Throwback Jerseys to be auctioned to benefit Veterans Airlift Command. Fans are also asked to bring items that will be collected four our troops overseas such as books, magazines, DVD's, snacks, sanitizers, wipes, hard candy or anything for our troops that can be included in the Komet Kare Packages. Also, all military, active and veterans, can take advantage of the Komets' Military Appreciation Ticket Offer where they can buy one ticket and get one free with a military I.D. for both games this weekend.Wendy's Family Night Sunday-- The Komets present Wendy's Family Night at every Sunday home game this season. Coupons for a Sundays 4-for-$28 ticket offer are available at Wendy's locations around the Fort Wayne area. Also, fans can bring their skates for a free open skate after each Sunday Family Night home game.

Home for the holidays-- After this weekend's home double-header Saturday and Sunday heading into the Christmas break, the Komets will host four games in seven nights starting Saturday, Dec. 27 against Evansville. Monday, Dec. 29 the Quad City Mallards make their only appearance of the season at 7:30pm. Indy visits for the annual New Year's Eve game Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 7:30pm and Wheeling is in town for their only visit of the season Friday, Jan. 2 at 8pm.

The show airs on WPTA TV 21Alive from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, 3869 Ice Way in Fort Wayne, featuring highlights, interviews and call-ins. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler. Tonight, Dec. 15, left wing C.J. Severyn will be Tommy's guest. All Komet fans are welcome to attend.
