Komets stop Clones 3-2 in shootout

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets started the month of December with their 15th win of the season 3-2 last night at Cincinnati in a shootout. The Komets extended their win streak to four games and are unbeaten in four shootouts this year while improving to a perfect 5-0 in extra-time games.

Defenseman James Martin started the scoring at 5:31 of the first period. Cincy's Zach Budish evened it up at 1-1 before the first intermission. After a scoreless second period Mike Embach put the Komets out front 2-1 with a marker at 15:12 but Cyclone Josh Shall scored the equalizer with 53 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into extra time.A scoreless overtime forced the shootout where the Komets prevailed 2-0 in four rounds on tallies by Shawn Szydlowski and Thomas Frazee. Pat Nagle pushed his win streak to three games in the Fort Wayne net on 24 and remains unbeaten in shootouts (3-0) after stopping all four Cincinnati attempts. Sam Brittain suffered Cincinnati's loss with 22 saves in regulation and overtime and allowing two goals in four shootout attempts.-Gamesheet-The first-place Komets (15-4-0, 30 points) will skate at Indy tonight at 7:35 (WOWO AM 1190, FM 92.3 and MyTV). The Komets lead the series 4-0-0 with seven meetings remaining. Tonight's game will be the third of five trips to the renovated Fairgrounds Coliseum at Indy. The Komets clipped the Fuel 2-1 in a shootout in the last meeting on Thanksgiving night in Fort Wayne. Indy lost to the visiting Florida Everblades 7-6 last night.

December, home for the holidays-- The Komets have a total of 12 games slated for December, split evenly with six at home and six on the road. The Komets will skate four road games before returning home to host Toledo for the first Sunday 5pm game at the Memorial Coliseum Dec. 14. After Christmas, the Komets will host three holiday games in five nights including Friday, Dec. 27, Monday, Dec. 29 and the annual New Year's Eve game Wednesday, Dec. 31.
