Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced today that Fort Wayne right wing Garrett Meurs has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the period of Nov. 24-30.Meurs contributed to all three wins of the week scoring goals in each game to established a three-game goal and point-scoring streak of four goals and an assist. The Wingham, Ontario native scored his first ECHL career goal in a 2-1 shootout win over the visiting Indy Fuel Thanksgiving night. Meurs posted a marker in the Komets' 4-1 win at Kalamazoo Friday before scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist for a three-point night in a 6-4 home win Saturday night.
Meurs arrived in Fort Wayne on assignment by the NHL's Colorado Avalanche from Lake Erie of the AHL and made his ECHL debut Nov. 14. Meurs scored his first ECHL career point when he dished an assist in a 3-1 home win against Kalamazoo Nov. 21 and has had points in four of his last five outings totaling four goals and six points.Meurs was selected by Colorado in round five of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and in 2012-13 completed four years of juniors with Plymouth in the OHL before making his pro debut in the AHL with Lake Erie last season.
K's on the road-- The Komets will skate two road games this weekend beginning with a 7:35pm faceoff Friday at Cincinnati (7-6-2, 16 points). Saturday the Komets face intrastate rival the Fuel at Indy at 7:35pm. Both games this weekend will be aired on WOWO Radio AM 1190 and FM 92.3 and worldwide on the web at Komets.com presented by OmniSource Radio Recycle. Saturday's game at Evansville will also be telecast on MyTV in Fort Wayne. Fans are invited to watch the game at the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery in Jefferson Pointe on Illinois Road.
Home for the holidays-- The Komets have 12 games slated for December including six at home for the holiday season. The Komets will host Toledo for the first Sunday 5pm game at the Memorial Coliseum Dec. 14. Indy visits Saturday, Dec 20 at 7:30pm. Evansville arrives Sunday, Dec. 21 for a 5pm faceoff. Then the Komets will host three holiday games in five nights including Friday, Dec. 27, Monday, Dec. 29 and the annual New Year's Eve game Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Schrock, Embach, Szydlowski, Nagle at TILTED KILT TONIGHT-- Fans will have a chance to visit with Komet players Kaleigh Schrock, Mike Embach, Shawn Szydlowski and Pat Nagle tonight at the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery in Jefferson Pointe (4541 Illinois Road) in Fort Wayne from 6:30pm-8pm. All Komet fans are welcome to take advantage of many photo opportunities and autographs.
