Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets finished week 22 of 2014-15 maintaining first place in the North Division of the ECHL by earning four points in four games played. Fort Wayne improves to 39-14-6 and 84 points with 13 games remaining on the regular season slate.Wednesday the Komets were doubled-up in Kalamazoo 8-4, snapping a nine-game point streak with the first regulation loss since Feb. 11 at Florida. Kaleigh Schrock, Cody Sol Christian Ouellet and Drew Daniels scored for Fort Wayne as goaltender Kevin Murdock suffered the loss making 18 saves on 26 shots in his first complete ECHL game.Friday the Komets rebounded with a 2-1 overtime home win against Toledo. J.M. Rizk scored in regulation and Joey Leach netted the game winner in overtime. Goaltender Mark Guggenberger celebrated his Fort Wayne debut with his 47th ECHL career win stopping 25 of 26 shots. It was the Komets' first overtime home win of the season and first since April 2, 2014 when they clipped Cincinnati 3-2.Saturday the Komets stumbled 3-1 in the first of a home-and-home series against the Cyclones at Cincinnati. James Martin scored the lone Fort Wayne goal while Guggenberger took the decision allowing three goals on 16 shots.
Sunday the Komets again rebounded from a loss stopping the Cyclones on Coliseum ice 3-2. Fort Wayne improves to 17-2-1 when following a loss and leads the season series 3-1-0 with three meetings remaining. Shawn Szydlowski scored his team-leading 26th goal of the season. Matthew Pistilli scored the game-tying marker and William Lacasse completed a third-period rally with the game winner. Roman Will returned to the Fort Wayne net and earned his 11th win of the season making 21 saves on 23 shots.
Komet streaks-- Szydlowski has a four-game home point-scoring streak (5g, 4a).....Pistilli has a four-game home point streak (3g, 3a).....Brett Perlini has a points in three straight home games (2g, 2a).....Will is riding an eight-game unbeaten streak (6-0-2).....the Komets have won three straight home games and have earned points in the last 12 straight home games.Shoot the puck-- The Komets out-shot their opponents during the week 131-91 and have out-shot their opponents in 11 straight games (6-2-3). Fort Wayne is 29-9-4 when out-shooting opponents.One-goal games-- Both wins for the week were one-goal games as Fort Wayne improved to 11-4 in one-goal games decided in regulation. The Komets also improved to 19-4-6 in one-goal games decided in extra time with Friday's 2-1 OT win over the Walleye.
Milestones-- Leach skated his 100th career ECHL game Saturday at Cincinnati.....Pistilli scored his 200th ECHL career point when he assisted on Sunday's game winning goal by Lacasse.
The week ahead: The Komets skate another four games in five nights this week for the second consecutive week.Wednesday at Indy..... the Komets make the trip south to intrastate rival Indy (25-25-9, 59 points) for a 7:05pm faceoff at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum (6,488). It will be the fourth of five meetings at Indy. The Komets lead the season series 7-0-2 with two meetings remaining. The Fuel are battling for playoff position and are locked with Wheeling in fifth place with 59 points, trailing fourth-place Cincinnati by a point. Indy is 6-2-2 in their last nine games but 1-2-1 in their last four. The Fuel skate at Kalamazoo Tuesday before hosting the Komets Wednesday.Friday at Kalamazoo.....the Komets head north to Kalamazoo (29-26-5, 63 points) for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium. Fort Wayne leads the season series 8-5-0 and are 4-3-0 after seven trips to Kalamazoo. The Wings hold third place in the North Division, trailing the Komets by 21 points but leading fourth-place Cincinnati by three points with a dozen games remaining in their race for playoff position. Kalamazoo is 3-2-0 in their last five outings after taking a split of a two-game visit to Reading over the weekend. The K-Wings host Indy Tuesday before welcoming the Komets Friday.Komets home Saturday and Sunday.....the Missouri Mavericks return to Fort Wayne to complete a three game season series. Saturday's game at 7:30pm will be the first of a double-header feature on Coliseum ice. Sunday the Komets face the Mavericks at 5pm. The Komets stopped their former CHL rival 6-2 in the first meeting of the series Oct. 25 in Fort Wayne. Missouri is still in the hunt for a playoff position in the Central Division of the Western Conference. The Mavs are tied with Elmira for fourth-place and trail third-place Orlando by three points with 12 games and five weeks remaining. Missouri is 1-2-2 in their last five games and enter the week after a 3-1 win at Quad City Sunday.Remember the blue-- This weekend is Prostate Cancer Awareness Weekend when the Komets host Missouri Saturday and Sunday. The Komets will wear blue throwback jerseys of the '80's in both games.
