Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets finished week 20 of 2014-15 holding on to first place in the Eastern Conference after gaining four points in three games and improving to 36-12-6 and 78 points. It's the first time the Komets have reached 78 points in 54 games since 2007-08. The earliest the Komets reached the 78-point plateau was in 1959-60 at 52 games.Wednesday the Komets started their second consecutive week of three home games in four nights with their fourth straight win over Evansville 4-3. The Komets rallied from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to take the win on goals by Cody Sol, William Lacasse, Christian Ouellet and Matthew Pistilli. Netminder Roman Will posted his ninth win of the season making 22 saves.-Gamesheet-Friday the Komets fell 3-2 in overtime to the Indy Fuel in the first of a home double-header against the intrastate rivals. It was Indy's first win over the Komets in eight meetings this season. Kyle Thomas was first to score for Fort Wayne. Shawn Szydlowski also scored in his first appearance since missing four games during a call-up to Lake Erie in the AHL. Will made 13 saves on 16 shots in his first overtime loss of the year, snapping a four-game win string.-Gamesheet-Saturday the Komets dropped a 5-4 shootout to the Fuel. Szydlowski netted a pair of goals for the fourth time this season while Pistilli and Ouellet also scored in regulation for Fort Wayne. Will pushed his unbeaten in regulation streak to six games (4-0-2) making 23 saves in regulation and overtime before stopping three of four Fuel shooters in the shootout.-Gamesheet-The Komets capped February with a 7-2-3 record for the month and a win percentage of .708 for the best February pace since 2010 (8-3-1, .708). Komet leaders-- Mike Embach leads with 35 assists and 55 points....Szydlowski leads with 25 goals and six power play markers.....Drew Daniels leads the ECHL with +34 and leads Komet defensemen with 30 assists and 33 points.....James Martin and Cody Sol lead Komet defensemen with six goals.....Sol leads with 99 penalty minutes.-Komets Teamstats-Streaking Komets-- The Komets enter week 21 riding an eight-game point streak (5-0-3) and nine-game home point streak (6-0-3).....Szydlowski had points in each of his two games after returning from his call-up to Lake Erie to extend his point-streak to six games (4g, 4a).....Embach had an assist in each game to push his assist and point streak to five games (1g ,5a).....Daniels also had assists in each game for a three-game assist streak (4a).Shooting Komets-- The Komets outshot their opponents 2-to-1 in each game of the week for totals of 143-68 and are 26-7-4 when outshooting opponents. The Komets directed 57 shots on Indy's goaltender Mac Carruth Saturday for the most shots in a game this season. The Komets all-time record for shots on goal in a game is 80 (and all shots were in regulation), set on March 27, 1965 in a 12-1 win over the visiting Dayton Gems.One-goal games-- The last six straight games have been decided by one goal (4-0-2). The Komets have been in a total of 28 one-goal games out of 54 this year (18-4-6).Penalty shots-- Brett Perlini was stopped by Fuel goaltender Mac Carruth on a penalty shot Saturday. The Komets are 0/3 after three penalty shots this season. However, the Komets have successfully stopped all three penalty shots awarded against them this season. In the ECHL there have been 10 penalty shots scored after 39 attempts. The last time the Komets scored a penalty shot goal was Dec. 10, 2011 when Chris Auger beat Evansville's Bryan Gillis in a 5-0 Fort Wayne home win.TIP-A-KOMET Tuesday at Applebee's-- The Komets invite all fans to the Tip-A-Komet benefit at Applebee’s North Clinton location by the Coliseum Tuesday, March 3, from 6:30pm-8pm. Save with your Marathon Fill-Up Card this Friday when the Komets host Kalamazoo.The week ahead-- The Komets will skate a home-and-home series against division rival Kalamazoo (25-23-5, 55 points) this weekend starting with the Wings visit Friday at 7:30pm. Kalamazoo is tied with Cincinnati for third place in the North Division after 53 games and trails first-place Fort Wayne by 23 points. The Komets lead the season series 7-4-0 with four meetings remaining. The Komets scored a 4-2 home win over the Wings Feb. 7 to take a split of a home-and-home series the last time the two rivals met. Kalamazoo was 5-4-0 in its last nine games and was 2-1-0 in a three-game set against Toledo over the weekend. The Wings will travel to Evansville Wednesday before visiting Fort Wayne Friday.
