Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced today that Komet forward Shawn Szydlowski has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 16-22. It's his second weekly honor of the season.Szydlowski, 24, scored five goals and added five assists while registering a +10 in four games for the week. The St. Clair Shores, Michigan native began the week dishing a pair of assists in each of the first two games, a 4-1 win at Indy Wednesday and a 4-3 loss at Kalamazoo Friday, before displaying a memorable career performance Saturday in Fort Wayne's 6-4 win over the visiting Missouri Mavericks. Szydlowski scored five goals in Saturday's victory including three short-handed markers. His five-goal effort tied Fort Wayne's all-time record of most goals in a game by a player and his three short-handed tallies tied the league's record. Szydlowski capped the week dishing an assist in Fort Wayne's 4-1 win Sunday over Missouri.Szydlowski, a fifth year pro, leads the Komets with 31 goals and 62 points after 48 games and is skating his second season in Fort Wayne. The Komets will skate three games in four nights this week. Wednesday the Komets face the Jackals at Elmira at 7:05pm. Friday the Komets travel to Wheeling for a 7:35pm faceoff and Saturday the Komets finish the eastern road trip with a 7:35pm start at Cincinnati.
KIDS SEAT FREE April 1 and 3-- The Komets will return next week for home games Wednesday, April 1 against the Evansville Icemen at 7:30pm and Friday, April 3 against Elmira at 8pm. Both games are Kids Seat Free Nights, courtesy Aunt Millie's and Parkview Health. Any child under the age of 12 can see the games for free with a full-priced adult ticket purchase.
