Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets announced Tuesday that left wing Mitchell Heard has been reassigned to Fort Wayne from the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters by the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL.Heard, 23, appeared in one previous stint in Fort Wayne at the beginning of the season from Oct. 18 through Nov. 19 scoring 10 goals and 16 points in 12 games. The Bowmanville, Ontario native scored six goals and 12 points in 51 games with the Monsters this past regular season. Heard was selected by Colorado in round two of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. In 2012-13 Heard completed his four-year juniors career with Plymouth in the OHL scoring 17 goals and 36 points in 32 games and made his pro debut appearing in 23 AHL games with Lake Erie scoring a goal and four points. Last season (2013-14) the skater spent the entire year with Lake Erie logging four goals and 12 points in 63 games. Heard will make his pro playoff debut when he joins the Komets in post-season play.The Komets have jumped out to a 2-0 series lead over Kalamazoo in the current first-round best-of-seven ECHL playoffs as the series switches to Kalamazoo for games 3, 4 and 5 if necessary this week. Game 3 is Wednesday night at 7:00. Game 4 will be held Friday at 7:30pm and if needed, game 5 will faceoff Saturday at 7:30pm. Games 6 and 7, if necessary, will be held in Fort Wayne at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.Special driving note-- To all fans driving to Kalamazoo for games this week, you may have to find alternate routes to the Wings Event Center due to the closure of the Sprinkle Road exit (exit 80) on I-94.
