Fort Wayne, IN-- It was a night for a few playoff milestones at the Komets' home playoff game Saturday. As Fort Wayne's radio announcer Bob Chase celebrated his 500th playoff game behind the Komet microphone, one rookie scored his first pro playoff goal in his first pro playoff game as another rookie logged his first pro playoff shutout.Chase has been the voice of the Fort Wayne Komets since 1953 and recently completed his 62nd regular season of calling play-by-play for the Komets. The Fort Wayne legend called his 500th Komet playoff game Saturday night, a 3-0 Komet win over long-time rival Kalamazoo Wings.
Chase and a crowd of 5,290 witnessed rookie forward Garrett Muers, back in the Fort Wayne lineup for the first time after returning from his AHL stint this season with Lake Erie, pot his first playoff goal. All in attendance also saw rookie netminder Roman Will earn his first playoff shutout stopping all 35 shots he faced. Fort Wayne's victory was sealed with empty net tallies from Mike Embach and C.J. Severyn, both in the final minute of play. -Gamesheet--Komets Playoff Teamstats-Saturday night's victory gives the Komets a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven ECHL Kelly Cup North Division Semifinals. The series switches to the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo. Game 3 is slated for Wednesday at 7pm. Game 4 will be held Friday at 7:30pm and if necessary, game 5 will faceoff Saturday at 7:30pm.
