Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets announced Wednesday that defenseman Curtis Leonard has been acquired from Reading in a trade for cash and added to the Fort Wayne roster.Leonard, 23, finished a four-year collegiate career at R.P.I. in the ECAC last season before making his pro debut in an AHL game with Rochester. The Napanee, Ontario native also appeared in five ECHL games with Reading at the end of the season. Leonard started this season with the Royals and scored one assist in three games.The six-foot, three-inch, 202-pound rookie defenseman was a member of the Wellington Dukes in the OJHL for three seasons, winning the 2011 OJHL Championship while leading Wellington defensemen with 20 assists during the regular season. Leonard also won the Hewitt Cup as a member of the Dukes in 2011.In 2011-12 Leonard was selected to the ECAC All-Academic Team with R.P.I. and repeated in 2012-13. During 2013-14 he led R.P.I. defensemen (T) with 12 points (1g, 11a). Last year Leonard was appointed Team Captain and finished his four-year collegiate career leading R.P.I. defensemen with 10 points (2g, 8a) before making his pro debut appearing in one AHL game with Rochester. He also skated five ECHL games with Reading at the end of the season.
Sivak, Halabi placed on IR-- In additional player movement, the Komets have placed forwards Peter Sivak and Reid Halabi on the injured reserve list.Wings visit Friday-- The Komets will skate three games this weekend. The triple-header weekend starts with an 8pm faceoff at the Memorial Coliseum Friday against the Kalamazoo Wings. Saturday the Komets travel to Toledo and face the Walleye at 7:15pm.
