Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets will host two games this weekend during Military Appreciation Weekend presented by Window World. The Toledo Walleye visit Friday at 8pm and the Kalamazoo Wings will be here for a 7:30pm faceoff Saturday. The Komets will wear special patriotic military-themed jerseys to be auctioned to benefit Veterans Airlift Command. Call the 260-483-0011 or visit komets.com for more information.About last week-- The Komets finished week three of the 2015-16 ECHL campaign at the top of the Midwest Division of the Western Conference tied with Quad City at eight points after six games (4-2-0).After posting a 4-0-0 start the first two weeks of the season, the Komets finished the month of October falling in back-to-back games. Friday the Komets were doubled-up 4-2 at Indy. It was Indy's first win in three straight meetings with Fort Wayne during the first month of the season as the Komets saw their four-game win string snapped. Defensemen Drew Daniels and Jordon Southorn hit the net for Fort Wayne while goaltender Spencer Martin (1-1-0) suffered his first pro loss in his first pro road start making 24 saves on 28 shots.Saturday the Komets returned home and dropped a 5-1 Halloween outing to the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones, snapping a three-game home winning streak. Peter Sivak, Shawn Szydlowski and Mike Embach each had five-game point-scoring streaks stopped and Daniels was kept off the board to snap a four-game point streak. Forward Garrett Meurs tallied his first goal of the season and netminder Pat Nagle (3-1-0) registered his first loss of the year, snapping a three-game winning streak.
Komet leaders-- Szydlowski leads with seven assists and nine points.....Trevor Cheek leads with five goals and is riding a four-game home point streak (4g, 3a).....Cheek and Cody Sol lead with 11 penalty minutes....Alex Belzile leads with two game winning goals.....Defensemen Drew Daniels and Jordon Southorn lead the ECHL with +7 (tied with Orlando's Eric Baier). Daniels ranks second among ECHL defensemen with six assists and seven points while Southorn ranks second with three goals.Special K's-- The Komets were 2/7 on the power play and 7/9 on the penalty kill in the two games played for the week. The Komets have scored a power play goal in each of the last three games and ranks sixth among the 28-team ECHL with a 21.7% rating (5/23).
THE WEEK AHEADToledo Walleye at Komets Friday-- Friday the Komets welcome the Toledo Walleye (3-2-1) at 8pm for the first of nine meetings this season. Last year the Komets were 3-2-2 in seven meetings, 2-0-2 against the Walleye on coliseum ice. Toledo will skate at Cincinnati Wednesday before making the trip to Fort Wayne Friday.Kalamazoo Wings at Komets Saturday-- Saturday the Wings (2-4-0) visit at 7:30pm for the first game of a home-and-home series against Kalamazoo. It will be the third of eight meetings this year after the Komets swept both games of a home-and-home series to open the season Oct. 16 and 17. Kalamazoo opened the season with a four-game winless skid before winning both games played last week. The Wings will host Adirondack Wednesday and skate at Wheeling Friday before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday.
Komets at Kalamazoo Wings Sunday-- Sunday the Komets travel to Wings Event Center for a 4pm faceoff against Kalamazoo. It will be Fort Wayne's second of four visits to Kalamazoo this year after winning the season opener at Kalamazoo Oct. 16, 5-3.-Komets schedule-Komets on the air-- Most Komet games are scheduled to be aired on WOWO AM 1190 and FM 92.3 as Bob Chase broadcasts Komet hockey play-by-play for his 63rd consecutive season.
