Komets blow away Cyclones 8-0

Fort Wayne—The Komets rallied from a 0-2 series deficit with an 8-0 thrashing of the Cyclones and cut Cincinnati’s series lead to 2-1 at Cincinnati Wednesday night.

The Komets came out flying with three first period goals by Alex Belzile, Troy Bourke and Kyle Thomas. Fort Wayne added four more markers in the second period as Belzile again opend the period with a goal, chasing Cyclone starting goaltender Brad Thiessen. Shawn Szydlowski then hit the net with a pair of tallies before Garrett Thompson sent the game into the second intermission with the Komets owning a commanding 7-0 lead.

Paul Crowder capped the game with the Komets’ eighth goal in the third period and the Komets finished with an 8-0 playoff victory. It was the first time the Komets have reached eight goals in a playoff game since April 17, 2007 at Chicago.

Komet goalie Pat Nagle earned the shutout making 21 saves. Cincinnati’s Brandon Whitney finished with 12 saves on 16 shots in relief.-scoresheet-The Komets will skate games 4 and 5 of the ECHL Western Conference quarterfinals best-of-seven series at Cincinnati Friday and Saturday at 7:35 each night. If a sixth game is necessary it will be played in Fort Wayne on Monday, April 25 at 7:35pm. A game 7, if needed, will be played in Fort Wayne Wednesday, April 27 at 7:30pm.
