Komets even series at 2-2

Cincinnati—After spotting the Cyclones a pair of goals Friday night at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, forward Troy Bourke finally put the Komets on the board with eight seconds remaining in the second period.

Bourke scored his second of the night at 6:43 of the third stanza to knot the game at 2-2 and send it into overtime.

In the first overtime the Komets out-shot Cincinnati 13-11 but neither team could find the twine. At 15:20 of the second OT Alex Belzile beat Cyclone goaltender Brad Thiessen at 15:20 to seal the win and even the best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals series at 2-2. Belzile also dished helpers on both of Bourke’s goals for a three-point night

Netminder Pat Nagle earned the win making 29 saves on 31 shots while Thiessen suffered the loss after allowing three goals on 53 shots. The Komets were 2/7 on the power play while Cincinnati was 0/5.

Total game time for Friday’s game at Cincy was 95:20. The last time Fort Wayne needed two overtimes was last year on May 10, 2015, when the Komets clipped the visiting Toledo Walleye 3-2 in a game that lasted 85:26.-Scoresheet-

Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday night at 7:35 in Cincinnati. The Fort Wayne victory assures a sixth game to be played on Coliseum ice on Monday, April 25 at 7:30pm. If game 7 is needed it will be played Wednesday, April 27 at Fort Wayne at 7:30pm.
