Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced Monday that Fort Wayne right winger Shawn Szydlowski has been named the CCM ECHL Player of the Month for March. Szydlowski scored six goals, 14 assists and was +11 in 13 games during the month.
The St. Clair Shores, Michigan native had at least a point in 10 of his 13 games. Szydlowski logged seven multi-point games including a league season-high five assists in an 8-2 win at Alaska on March 12. Szydlowski finished the month riding a seven-game road point-scoring streak (3g, 12a).
Szydlowski currently leads the Komets with 24 goals (tied with Jamie Schaafsma), career season-highs of 49 assists and 73 points and has a +21 (tied with Jordon Southorn) in 59 games.The 25-year old skater is in his third season with the Komets. This is his first ECHL Player of the Month award. Szydlowski was the recipient of two Player of the Week awards last year.
The Komets will close the 2015-16 ECHL regular season schedule this week with three games. Wednesday the Quad City Mallards visit for a 7:30pm start. Friday the Komets skate their last road game at Indy at 7:35pm before returning home to host the Fuel Saturday at 7:30pm in the season finale.
The Komets have clinched first place in the Midwest division and will have home-ice advantage in the first round of the 2016 Kelly Cup playoffs. The first two games of the post-season will be skated in Fort Wayne Friday, April 15 at 8pm and Saturday, April 16 at 7:30pm. The Komets' opponent is yet to be determined.
