Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets rode a pair of goals by Mike Embach to a 2-1 victory Thursday night at Allen and cut the American’s Western Conference best-of-seven series lead to 2-1.
Embach opened the scoring at 4:11 of the first period for the only goal of the session. Embach again solved Allen goaltender Jake Hildebrand at 19:18 of the second frame to send the match into the second intermission with the Komets up 2-0.
Allen answered with a marker at 11:36 of the third period to cut the Fort Wayne lead in half but the Komets held off the Americans for the remaining 8:24 of the stanza for the win.
Pat Nagle earned Fort Wayne’s win stopping 27 of 28 shots while Hildebrand suffered the loss making 35 saves on 37 shots. The Komets were 0/4 on the power play while Allen was 0/1 with the man advantage.
The Komets will tangle with the Americans in game 4 Saturday at Allen. Thursday night’s win forces a game 5 which will be played Sunday at Allen.
If games 6 and 7 are needed, they will be held in Fort Wayne Tuesday, May 24 and Thursday May 26.
