Komets drop first game 5-3

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets dropped game 1 of the best-of-seven ECHL Western Conference finals against the Allen Americans 5-3 Friday night in Fort Wayne.

Allen scored three goals in a span of 5:29 in the first period before the Komets could recover with a marker by Trevor Cheek with 13 seconds remaining to send the game into the first intermission with the Komets trailing 3-1.

The second period had no scoring but 24 minutes of penalties were called to keep traffic busy at the penalty box.

The Komets opened the third stanza with Trevor Bourke scoring to pull the Komets within one goal at 3:16. The Americans answered at 11:39 before Bourke scored his second of the night at 13:28 to once again bring the Komets to within one at 4-3. The Komets pulled goaltender Pat Nagle for the extra attacker but Allen's Vincent Arseneau found the empty net to give Allen a 5-3 win and a 1-0 series lead.

Nagle had his winning streak snapped at six games making 21 saves on 25 shots. Allen's Riley Gill earned the win allowing three goals on 26 shots.
