Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets fell 6-4 Sunday at Allen as the Americans eliminated Fort Wayne from the ECHL Western Conference finals series 4-1.
The Komets mounted a 2-0 lead in the first period before Allen answered with a pair to knot the game at the first intermission.
Allen scored two goals in the second frame for a 4-2 lead at the end of two. The Komets and Americans each swapped a pair of goals in the third, including an empty net tally for Allen to give the Americans the 6-4 win and a berth in the Kelly Cup Championship finals for the second straight year.
Cody Corbett, Shawn Szydlowski, Jamie Schaafsma and Garrett Meurs scored for the Komets. Goaltender Spencer Martin started for Fort Wayne and allowed five goals on 16 shots before Pat Nagle entered the game at 3:39 of the third period and made seven saves on seven shots. Jake Hildebrand earned the win for Allen making 48 saves on 44 shots.
The annual Komets End-of-Season Party and Jersey Auction will be held this Thursday at the Memorial Coliseum. Doors open at 6:30pm and the auction will begin at 7pm. Admission is $5.00. However, season ticket holders and kids under 12 will be admitted free.
