Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets celebrated their 65th home opener with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Quad City Mallards Saturday night on Sweetwater Ice at the Memorial Coliseum in front of a crowd of 8,751 Fort Wayne faithful.
Brady Vail opened the scoring at 2:57 of the first before Quad City's Sam Warning knotted the score at 14:01. Mike Cazzola scored his first goal as a pro at 17:22 to send the teams into the first intermission with the Komets up 2-1.
Vail notched his second of the night at 16:50 of the second period to give Fort Wayne a 3-1 lead at the end of two. There was no scoring in the third stanza.
Netminder Pat Nagle earned his second straight win and third straight Fort Wayne home opening win making 26 saves on 27 shots. C.J. Motte suffered the loss in the Mallard's net allowing three goals on 29 shots.
The Komets will get ready for another home-and-home series next weekend against Kalamazoo. Friday the Komets visit the Wings at 7pm before returning home to host Kalamazoo Saturday night at 7:30.
