Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets took a split of their preseason two-game series with Indy by topping the Fuel 5-2 Saturday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Forward Kyle Thomas netted a pair of goals while David Freidmann, Mason Baptista and Cody Sol each contributed markers. Garrett Bartus and John McLean each took their turn in the Fort Wayne net. Bartus stopped all seven shots faced in his 29:01 of action. McLean allowed two goals on 12 shots and collected the win while serving between the posts for 30:59. Mike Cazzola dished two assists and leads the Komets in preseason play with four assists and four points with a +3.

The Komets will complete their preseason schedule Monday night on Sweetwater Ice at the Coliseum when the Brampton Beast visit for Fort Wayne's third and final exhibition game at 7:30pm.

Fort Wayne roster trimmed by seven-- The Komets announced Sunday that seven players have been released from training camp. Players released are: Forwards Jake Hauswirth and Chase Nieuwendyk. Defensemen Rob Simpson, Frank Schumacher and Luke Eibler. Goaltenders Garrett Bartus and John McLean.

The Komets also announced that five players were returned to Fort Wayne from AHL camps Saturday. Shawn Szydlowski, Will Weber and Gabriel Beaupre were released from the Grand Rapids camp. Brady Vail and Bobby Shea were released from Chicago.The Fort Wayne preseason roster sits at 25 players including 14 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders.

65th Home Opener Saturday, Oct. 15-- The Komets will open 2016-17 with a home-and-home series against the Quad City Mallards starting Friday, Oct. 14 at Quad City.
