Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets season opening winning streak was snapped at three games with a 3-1 set back to the visiting Kalamazoo Wings Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum giving the Komets a split of the weekend home-and-home series with the Wings. The Komets clipped the Wings Friday at Kalamazoo 2-1.
After a scoreless first period, the Wings scored three unanswered markers in the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
Fort Wayne's David Freidmann netted his second goal of the year at 10:50 of the third to put the Komets on the board and finally solve Kalamazoo goaltender Nick Riopel. The Komets pulled starting goaltender Eric Hartzell in favor of the extra attacker with 3:30 remaining in the game but Kalamazoo's Eric Kattelus found the empty net to cap the game 4-1.
Hartzell suffered the loss for the Komets making 28 saves on 31 shots in his first appearance of the season while Kalamazoo's Riopel earned his second win of the season allowing one goal on 42 shots in front of 7,254 Fort Wayne faithful.-Gamesheet-
The Komets will take the upcoming week to get ready to host the defending ECHL champion Allen Americans Friday, Oct. 28 at 8pm. It's the only game of week three scheduled for Fort Wayne.
