Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced Tuesday that Komet forward Trevor Cheek was named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the period of Oct. 31-Nov. 6.After starting the season in the Tucson lineup in the AHL, Cheek returned to Fort Wayne last week and scored a goal and added five assists to finish his first week of the year with six points.The Vancouver, Washington native had a hand in each of the four goals scored in a 4-0 home win over Indy Friday in his first appearance of the season. While scoring the third goal of the game, he also assisted on the game winner, had a power play assist on the second goal and assisted on the fourth goal to seal the game. Cheek followed with two assists Sunday in a 5-4 overtime loss at Brampton for two multi-point games for the week.Cheek enters this week ranking first on the Komets with five assists (tied with Kyle Thomas) and third with six points (tied with Mike Cazzola and Garrett Thompson).Last year Cheek tallied 17 goals and 25 points in 28 Fort Wayne regular season games before adding five goals and 13 points in all 16 Kelley Cup Playoff games.
The week ahead-- The Komets are on the road for week five of 2016-17, playing four games in five nights in the heartland of America against Western Conference rivals. Wednesday the Komets skate at Tulsa at 8:05pm ET and then travel to Missouri for a pair of back-to-back games Friday, at 8:35pm ET and Saturday at 8:05pm ET. The Komets cap the week with a 5:05pm ET faceoff at Wichita Sunday. It's the only visits of the season to Tulsa, Missouri and Wichita.Kids Seat Free Friday, Nov. 18-- Once again this season the Komets feature Kids Seat Free Nights. The next Kids Seat Free Night is Friday, Nov. 18 when Quad City visits, courtesy Aunt Millie's, Parkview Health and the Komets. Any child under the age of 12 can see the game for free with a full-priced adult ticket purchase.
