Komets stun Mavericks 6-5 in OT

Fort Wayne, IN-- Another thrilling Komet comeback. The Komets scored five unanswered goals to steal a win from the visiting Missouri Mavericks Friday night on Sweetwater Ice at the Memorial Coliseum. Most of the 7,316 fans in attendance at the start of the game witnessed the fantastic finish as those who watched the first 47 minutes of the game were rewarded for their patience.

After Missouri mounted a 5-1 lead on a Dane Fox power play goal at 4:15 of the third period the Komets caught fire. Newcomer Kyle Follmer, who was added to the Fort Wayne roster prior to the game, scored at 7:26. Then Shawn Szydlowski lit the lamp 64 seconds later at 8:30. The Komets then rallied with the fastest two goals of the season with goaltender Eric Hartzell, who entered the game in relief of starter Garrett Bartus at 2:33 of the third, pulled for the extra attacker. Mike Embach scored at 19:09 and Kyle Thomas struck 14 seconds later at 19:23 to send the game into overtime.It only took 49 seconds for the hot Komets to reach a verdict, a 6-5 overtime win, with Garrett Thompson scoring the game winner and his third point of the night to seal the victory.Hartzell finished in the Fort Wayne net with his 10th win of the year in his seventh straight appearance while Missouri goaltender Ville Husso suffered his fourth loss of the campaign. The Komets directed a season-high 47 shots on the Mav's net and allowed a season-low 16 shots.

The Komets earned a sweep of the season series with Missouri (3-0-0) with their first overtime win of the season. -Gamesheet-The Komets also earned a rare Saturday night off before they host Utah Sunday at 5pm for the first of six Sunday home games this season.
