Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets fell 2-1 Friday night at Toledo in front of 6,016 at the Huntington Center. The Walleye take a 1-0 lead in the Central Division finals best-of-seven series.
All of the scoring came in the second frame and both Toledo goals came on the power play as Toledo capitalized with their man advantages. Toledo's Landon Oslanski opened the scoring at 2:27 of the second before Trevor Cheek scored the equalizer for the Komets at 9:51. A.J. Jenks scored his second marker of the playoffs for the game winner at 13:42.
It was the first time in six playoff games Fort Wayne has trailed after the second period. Toledo is now 3-1-0 when leading after the second period in the playoffs.
The Komets have had 17 man advantages in the playoffs (6 games) compared to Toledo's 29 (8 games). The Komets finished 0/2 on the power play while the Walleye were 2/5. Fort Wayne continues to lead the league in the playoffs with a 35.3 power play rating (6/17) while Toledo ranks second at 27.6% (8/29). Fort Wayne goalie Pat Nagle suffered the loss making 22 saves on 24 shots in his sixth straight appearance. Walleye goaltender Jeff Lerg earned his second win of the post season making 24 saves.
The Komets face the Walleye at Toledo again tonight (Saturday) at 7:35pm before the series switches to Fort Wayne for game 4 Wednesday and game 5 Friday.
