Komets fall in game 3

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets fell 3-2 to the Toledo Walleye Wednesday night in Fort Wayne to give Toledo a 3-0 lead in the Central Division finals best-of-seven series.

Fort Wayne's Garrett Thompson opened the scoring 29 seconds into the second period after a scoreless first stanza to give the Komets a 1-0 lead. The Walleye answered with A.J. Jenks' third goal of the post-season at 9:14. Gabriel Desjardins beat Toledo goalie Jeff Lerg in close on Fort Wayne's first short-handed goal of the playoffs and the Komets went into the second intermission up 2-1.

Toledo's Evan Rankin potted his sixth of the playoffs at 4:11 of the third frame before Jenks marked his second of the night to give the Walleye a 3-2 lead with 3:05 remaining in the game.

With Toledo's Rankin and Matt Caito in the penalty box and Komet goaltender Garrett Bartus pulled for the extra attacker the Komets tried to take advantage of a six-on-three in the last minute but to no avail.

Bartus suffered the loss for the Komets in his first playoff appearance of the season making 32 saves while the Walleye's Lerg snagged the win stopping 33 of 35 shots.

Both teams were scoreless on the power play. Fort Wayne had three man advantages to Toledo's two.
