Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets completed a three-game preseason with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Kalamazoo Wings Monday night at the Memorial Coliseum.
A three-goal outburst in the third period sealed the win for the Komets. After a scoreless first period, each team swapped goals in the second. 43 seconds into the period Peter Schneider put the Wings on the board but Komet forward Garrett Thompson answered with a power play tally at 16:20.
The Komets blasted the Kalamazoo net for three goals by Shawn Szydlowski, Jamie Schaafsma and Tyson Fawcett while netminder Michael Houser stoned the Wings stopping all 11 shots in the third period.
Houser earned the win for Fort Wayne in his only preseason appearance making 33 saves on 34 total shots. Michael Garteig suffered the loss in his only exhibition game allowing four goals on 35 shots.
The Komets were 2-1-0 in the preseason, Kalamazoo finished their exhibition campaign 0-2-0.
Marco Roy dished an assist on Thompson's power play goal to complete the preseason leading Fort Wayne with three assists and five points appearing in all three games. Schaafsma and Thompson each ranked second with three points (2g, 1a each).
Home/Season Opener Oct. 14-- The Komets will open 2017-18 hosting the Toledo Walleye on Sweetwater Ice at the Coliseum Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30pm. The Komets are home for four games in October before making their first road trip Nov. 5 to Kalamazoo.
