Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets will host game 2 of a home-and-home preseason series tonight when the Indy Fuel visit for a 7:30pm faceoff. The Fuel clipped the Komets 3-1 in the preseason opener last night at Indy.
Jamie Schaafsma scored the lone Fort Wayne marker to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period after Indy's Matt Johnson opened the scoring 64 seconds earlier. Fuel forward Tommy Olczyk scored the eventual game winner at 2:29 of the second frame. Will Smith sealed the victory for Indy with an empty netter at 19:14 of the third.The Komets outshot the Fuel 39-23 and was 0/2 on the power play while stopping all three Indy power plays.
Fort Wayne netminder Alex Sakellaropoulos suffered the loss making seven saves on nine shots. Garrett Bartus stopped all 13 shots faced in 23:54 of relief. Indy goaltender Collin Delia served the entire game and earned the win on 38 saves.
After tonight's home preseason game against Indy the Komets will have the day off Sunday and then return to the ice to host Kalamazoo for the third and final preseason game Monday at 7:30pm at the Memorial Coliseum.
Home/Season Opener Oct. 14-- The Komets will open 2017-18 hosting the Toledo Walleye on Sweetwater Ice at the Coliseum Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30pm. The Komets are home for four games in October before making their first road trip Nov. 5 to Kalamazoo.
