Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets snapped a three-game winless skid with a 7-1 pounding of the visiting Quad City Mallards Saturday night in Fort Wayne. A home crowd of 7,939 were dazzled with a display of seven goals in dominating fashion on Sweetwater Ice as three Komets bagged two goals apiece.Jason Binkley got it started early at 1:46 of the first period with his first of four points on the night. Quad City answered 23 seconds later with Sam Warning's team-leading seventh goal of the season but it was all Komets from that moment forward.The Komets went on to score three more in the first period by Garrett Thompson, Dan Maggio and Marc-Olivier Roy to send the game into the first intermission with Fort Wayne holding a commanding 4-1 lead.
Roy and Maggio each connected for their second markers of the night in the second period and Thompson added a power play tally in the third period for his second of the night and a 7-1 victory.Garrett Bartus earned his first win of the season stopping 26 of 27 shots and the Komets directed 43 shots on the Mallard's net, chasing starter Ivan Kulbakov from the game after five goals and 27 shots. Quad City's Alex Sakellaropoulos made 14 saves on 16 shots in 30:20 of relief.
The Komets will skate at Kalamazoo today at 3pm in the first of three trips to Wings Stadium this season and the first of six meetings overall. The Wings are coming off a 5-2 loss at Toledo last night. The Komets can jump into a tie with Kalamazoo and Cincinnati for second place in the central division with a win in regulation today.
Today's game in Michigan marks the start of a five-game road tour for the Komets. Fort Wayne skates Wednesday at Colorado and travels to Utah for a pair Friday and Saturday. The Komets will skate Thursday, Nov. 16 at Toledo before returning to the Coliseum to face Kansas City in the next home game Friday Nov. 17.
