Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets rallied with three goals in the third period Friday night to stop the visiting Indy Fuel 5-2 and remain unbeaten in regulation at home by Indy (14-0-3) since the Fuel joined the ECHL in 2014-15.After a scoreless first period, Indy's Michael Neal opened the scoring at 1:21 of the second period but it only took the Komets 21 seconds to respond with Gabriel Desjardins' first goal of the night at 1:42. Jamie Shaafsma gave the Komets a brief 2-1 lead 49 seconds later. Nick Bligh scored the equalizer at 14:21 to finish the scoring for the period and send the game into the second intermission knotted at 2-2.
The Komets took control in the third period with three markers. Desjardins' scored his second of the night at 13:37 before two empty net goals by Shawn Szydlowski and Schaafsma sealed the win for Fort Wayne.
Michael Houser earned his 10th win of the season in the Fort Wayne net making 31 saves on 33 shots. Matt Tomkins suffered the loss for Indy allowing three goals on 36 shots.
Saturday the Komets complete the home-and-home weekend series against Indy at Indiana Farmers Coliseum (6,488) at 7:35pm. It's the second of six trips to Indianapolis where the Komets won the first meeting 4-2 on Nov. 24.
Komet Holiday Hockey-- The Komets will be home for three more games before the New Year. Saturday, Dec. 23 the Quad City Mallards are back in town for a 7:30pm faceoff. After Christmas, the Komets will host Wheeling Friday, Dec. 29 at 8pm before celebrating New Year's Eve with a 7:30pm faceoff against Toledo.
