Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets will open the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs presented by SmileDirect Club against the arch rival Toledo Walleye Friday at the Huntington Center (7,431) in downtown Toledo at 7:35pm.
The Central Division Semifinals will be a best-of-seven series played under a 2-2-1-1-1 format. The first two games will be in Toledo followed by games 3 and 4 in Fort Wayne. If needed, game 5 will be in Toledo, game 6 will be in Fort Wayne and game 7 will face off in Toledo.

Last year the Komets eliminated the Cincinnati Cyclones in the first round best-of-seven series 4-1 before bouncing the Walleye 4-2 in the Central Division Finals. The Komets forced the Colorado Eagles to the seventh and decisive game in the Kelly Cup semifinals where the Eagles prevailed 4-3 in overtime and eliminated the Komets 4-3.Fort Wayne has won their first-round series in each of the last five seasons and is set to battle Toledo for the fourth time in the ECHL post-season. It will be the 14th Fort Wayne-Toledo playoff series overall in the history of the two teams with Toledo holding an 8-5 series edge.The Komets and Toledo faced each other in three rare IHL round robin playoffs in 1961, 1969 and 1982 totaling seven games where the Komets were 3-4. Overall, the Komets have faced a Toledo team in a total of 76 playoff games going 36-40.
During 2018-19 Toledo claimed #2 seed in the Central Division with a 40-23-9 record and 89 points. The Komets finished in third place with a 36-26-10 record and 82 points. The Komets were 5-4-2 after 11 meetings while Toledo went 6-2-3. Both teams finished the season 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.
