Fort Wayne, IN— The Komets have signed forwards Arnaud Durandeau and Jack Kopacka for next season. The team now has 14 forwards and seven defensemen under contract. The team also announced that defenseman Reece Harsch has been placed on team suspension and that Austin Waskurak will join the team as video coach.
Durandeau (ar-NOH DOO-ran-doh), 27, joins the Komets as the team’s fifth veteran. The sixth-round 2017 draft pick of the New York Islanders has spent most of his pro career in the AHL, appearing in 234 games and scoring 54 goals with 81 assists for 135 points. The 6’0 winger has also skated in four games in the NHL with the Islanders and played a season in Russia in the KHL.
“Durandeau has a resume you can’t ignore,” said head coach Ben Boudreau. Scoring 55 points in the AHL is quite the accomplishment. He’s a dynamic threat and playmaker who will be very important to our success this season.”
Kopacka, 28, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL draft by Anaheim. The Metamora, Michigan native played the last four seasons in Sweden, collecting 121 points (66g, 55a) in 186 games. The 6’2 lefty has also played 130 games in the AHL, scoring 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 points.
“Jack possesses separation speed, and when you match that with his offensive instinct, he’s a dangerous weapon,” said Boudreau.
Washkurak, 31, served as video coach for the Rapid City Rush last season. Before making his way to the ECHL, the Oakville, Ontario native also filled the same role as video coach of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals.
