The Wheeling Nailers tangled with the Wheeling Nailers on Friday, looking to end their two-game slide.
In the first period, Hunter Johannas kept up his hot start with his fourth goal of the season at 1:29, assisted by newly acquired defenseman Xavier Lapointe, to put the Komets up 1-0. Rookie goaltender Eemil Vinnie turned away all 12 shots he faced as his team couldn't add to the lead despite a 5-on-3 power play late in the period.
The Nailers’ Dante Sheriff tied it in the second period with a strike at 16:54, then took the lead with another goal at 19:26.
The Komets couldn't rally in the third as the Nailers scored twice into an empty net to make it 4-1 final. Vinni made 33 saves in the loss.
