Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets announced Wednesday that they have acquired the rights for defenseman Justin Hamonic from the Alaska Aces in exchange for future considerations.Hamonic (HAMM-en-ick), 21, completed his fourth year of major juniors last season with Tri-City of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Winnipeg, Manitoba native served as captain of the Americans his final year while leading Tri-City with 95 penalty minutes and scoring career highs of 18 assists and 19 points in 72 games. Hamonic was voted Tri-City's MVP and was named the Americans' Defenseman of the Year.Hamonic also made his pro debut last season appearing in four ECHL games with Alaska at the end of the season.The addition of Hamonic pushes the Fort Wayne preseason roster to 23 players including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
