Icing the puck – The Komets have won 49 home openers in 75 seasons. Despite facing Toledo over 500 times since 1952, Saturday was only the sixth time the Komets faced a Toledo team to open a season. The six goals scored in the win against Toledo were the most in a home opener since 2008, when the Komets defeated Flint 11-3. Cody Morgan dished three assists in his pro debut. The last Komets rookie to be credited with three helpers in his first pro game was Mike Cazzolla on October 14, 2016, during a 6-2 win at Quad City. Jack Gorniak’s empty-net goal was his first since April 6, 2025. Nathan Day has won 25 of his 43 appearances with the Komets.
