The Komets rolled into Kalamazoo for the first time on Sunday and came away with a 3-1 win.
After a scoreless first period, Fort Wayne’s Josh Davies broke the scoring drought on a short-handed breakaway at 19:02 of the second period to put the Komets up 1-0.
In the third period, the Wings tied it at 4:27. Jake Kopacka restored the lead for the Komets when the puck bounced off goaltender Mitchell Weeks' shoulder at 18:15. Right after the ensuing faceoff, defenseman Simon Despres was called for slashing, giving the Wings the man advantage. With Weeks pulled for an extra skater, Patrick Guzzo scored a shorthanded empty-net goal to give the Komets the victory. Goaltender Eemil Vinni made 37 saves.
