The Komets came out firing against Bloomington at the Coliseum on Friday but couldn't hold off the visitors.
Josh Davies lit the lamp twice, while captain Alex Alerardi scored his first of the season and Hunter Johannes scored his fifth goal in seven games to put the Komets up 4-0 after the first period, chasing Bloomington's starting goaltender Issac Poulter after 10 shots.
In the second period, Bloomington chipped away at the Komets' lead with two goals to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Bison continued their comeback in the third period, netting a goal at 15:10, and then, with relief goaltender Alex Worthington pulled for the extra skater, Bloomington’s Deni Goure found the back of the net with just over a minute to play, sending the game to overtime.
Neither team scored in the extra frame, so the match was settled in a shootout, where Goure struck again, giving Bloomington the 5-4 win as the Komets failed to score on three shootout tries. The Komets were outshot 51-32, and Eemil Vinni took the loss.
