Komets drop game 4 in OT 6-5

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets watched a three-goal lead evaporate and then came up short in overtime falling to the Americans 6-5 at Allen Saturday night. Allen is now one game away from advancing to the Kelly Cup Championship finals for the second straight year after rallying from a 5-2 deficit to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference finals series.

Allen was first on the board at 6:54 of the first period before the Komets answered with three consecutive goals by Cody Sol, Mike Embach and Garrett Thompson for a 3-1 lead by 3:15 of the second period. The Americans pulled within one with a marker at 7:46 but the Komets responded with a pair of goals by Garrett Thompson and Shawn Szydlowski for a 5-2 lead going into the second intermission, chasing Allen’s starting goaltender Riley Gill in favor of Jake Hildebrand.

The Americans scored three unanswered goals in the third period, two on the power play, to knot the game at 5-5 and send it into overtime. At 3:46 of the extra session, Allen’s J.P. LaFontaine scored the game winner and put the Komets on the brink.

Goaltender Pat Nagle suffered the loss allowing six goals on 30 shots. Gill made 14 saves on 19 shots and Hildebrand stopped all 17 shots faced and earned the win.

The Komets were 1/6 on the power play. Allen was 3/6 with the man advantage.

Game 5 is Sunday at 5:05pm ET at Allen. If games 6 and 7 are needed, they will be held in Fort Wayne Tuesday, May 24 and Thursday May 26.
