Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets overpowered the visiting Kansas City Mavericks Friday night 8-2 in the first of a home double-header against the Mavs for a 2-0-0 start to 2017-18. Fort Wayne opened the scoring at 11:01 of the first period and never looked back. The Komets mounted a 4-0 lead before Kansas City solved netminder Michael Houser at 6:32 of the second period. Four more unanswered Fort Wayne goals were scored before the Mavericks capped the scoring in the game with their second marker at 15:59 of the third. Three Komets scored three points in the game including Garrett Thompson (2g, 1a), Marco Roy (1g, 2a) and Ralph Cuddemi (3a). Also scoring were Gabriel Desjardins, Tyson Fawcett, Jamie Schaafsma, Justin Hodgman and Ryan Culkin. Jordan Kwas and Matt Robertson connected for the Mavericks. Houser finished with his second win of the season making 19 saves on 21 shots while KC's Tyler Parsons suffered his first loss of the season allowing eight goals on 30 shots.
