Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced today that Fort Wayne's Mitchell Heard has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 3-9.Heard was instrumental in both Fort Wayne wins of the week scoring the first goal of a 4-3 win at Reading Friday night while adding an assist on the Komets second goal for a two-point evening. Saturday the left wing extended his league-high goal-scoring streak to four games (6g) with a pair of markers and added two assists for a career high 4-point outing as he led the Komets to their fifth straight road win 7-6 and a sweep of a two-game visit to Reading.Heard leads the Komets with eight goals and 13 points and tops the K's with three first goals and a +7. The Bowmanville, Ontario native completed the week riding a six-game point streak (7g, 4a) as the Komets improved to a league-leading 8-1-0 record.Heard was selected by Colorado in the second round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The 22-year-old registered four goals and 12 points in 63 games last season as a rookie with Lake Erie in the American Hockey League.
Road trip continues this week against division rivals-- The Komets continue on the road this week with a morning affair at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo Wednesday at 10:30. Friday the Komets make their first of three trips to Toledo this season for a 7:15pm start at the Huntington Center. Saturday the Komets complete week five with a 7:35pm faceoff against the Cyclones at Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena.
Next Komet home game, Friday, Nov. 21, features TEDDY BEAR TOSS-- The Komets will return home on Friday, November 21 to host the Kalamazoo Wings at 8pm on Teddy Bear Toss Night. It's the second annual Teddy Bear Toss game presented y Huntington University. Fans are invited to bring new or gently used stuffed animals to the game for the big toss and celebration after the Komets' first goal. All stuffed animals collected will benefit the Disorderly Bear Den of Good Bears of the World!REPORT CARD NIGHT #1 Saturday, Nov. 22-- The Komets will have two PHP Report Card Nights this year. Students with an "A" or "A Equivalent" on their most recent report card earn a free ticket and have a chance to win one of two $1,000 U.S. Savings Bonds for future education on Report Card nights Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:30pm when the Komets host the Greenville Road Warriors and again Saturday, Feb. 21, when Gwinnett visits for a 7:30pm faceoff.
